I have downloaded and tried about 30 POS programs all costing from $35 to $250. I thought I had
settled on a good program with POS Maid having a clean and easy to use interface and the ability to
import Excel spreadsheet data directly into the database (you must have MS Excel 2000 installed- not
just a file). HOWEVER, the company is apparently so paranoid of piracy that they've built in LAND
MINES OF SECURITY that end up causing problems that FEEL MORE LIKE SABATOGE. Each install of $45
requires you to email the company with a different random number that it generates every time you
need to reinstall if something gets corrupted. They in turn (at the time of writing this) manually
email you back a password that is suppose to unlock your software from the demo mode that otherwise
limits the amount of input. In other words, if you have to reinstall, you are either going to end up
paying $45 every time or spend days like we did, emailing support back and forth to their Gmail
account to resolve the issues because the program requires a brand new, different password every
time you need to reinstall. FURTHERMORE, versions of their software are not in many cases
compatible. We had version 2.29 on one machine that's database could not be read on the 2.28 version
of the machine we took to a sales convention. After days of emails which we had to leave the booth
every couple hours and find a wifi connection, they finally corrected the problem and issued a new
password. There's NO PHONE NUMBER for Alexandria Computers, because apparently it's just one guy
that designed this software as a school project and markets it himself. I finally found a number for
him on WHO IS domain lookup and frantically called 3 times one day reaching a voice mail but no
response. His statement online says in so many words that they cannot afford to offer phone support
as such a low cost. They apparently are still living in the past as you can get equal or greater POS
programs for free like the open source program called OPEN BRAVO. Well, what do you think now
Alexandria Computers? Don't you think spending 2 minutes on the phone to issue us a new password
would have been worth it compared all the sales you are going to probably lose now by those wanting
to avoid these type of booby-trap-like security measures? I WOULD HAVE PAID TO TALK TO ANYONE TO
HELP US OUT AS IT COST US TIME AND LOST SALES.
NO PHONE and if you find his number like
we did on DOMAIN WHO IS, he still won't answer the phone - try him yourself: 219 306-1664
